FAQs about Therapy in San Francisco

Starting therapy is a big step. You matter and your questions matter.

FAQs about EMDR, Trauma, Couples, Child Therapy.

Why don’t you take insurance?

There are three reasons:

  1. Client privacy. When using insurance, your insurance company has access to very personal information about you. If asked, I have to supply notes on our sessions to an insurance company, leaving you vulnerable to having your intimate moments and thoughts reviewed by others.

  2. Therapy interventions. Insurance companies can dictate how I treat clients, how long, and which interventions are utilized. This requirement can undercut the therapeutic progress and prevent us from using the most advanced and effective techniques.

  3. Time management. All of my energy is focused on client care rather than going back and forth with insurance companies. I can focus entirely on providing the most effective therapy to my clients. You get the best of me as a therapist.

How do I know therapy will work?

All of the modalities I use are evidence-based therapies and are the gold standard in treatment. Combining these therapies with my extensive experience, my clients see incredible progress. While results cannot be guaranteed, I will do my best to support you in meeting your goals.

How long will I be in therapy?

The length of therapy varies. Clients tend to come for 25-30 sessions on a weekly basis.

How often will we meet?

I see my clients weekly for the first 3-4 months of treatment. After that point, we can discuss moving to a lower frequency in support of your therapy goals.

What if I have more questions?

You are welcome to book a consultation call to discuss any questions. If a call feels like too much pressure, please feel free to check out the About page or fill out the information form on the Contact page.

What types of therapy do you offer?

I work with children doing play therapy, couples using Gottman Couples Therapy, and adults looking for trauma/EMDR therapy.

What happens during the free consultation?

The call will be via telephone and last about 15 minutes. During this time, I will ask what is bringing you to therapy and share how I can help. We will discuss any questions and concerns you have and at the end of the call decide about a first session together.

Good Faith Estimate for Trauma Therapy, Couples Therapy, or Child Therapy

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate (GFE)” explaining how much your medical care will cost.

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.

  • You have the right to receive a GFE for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items and services. This includes costs related to medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.

  • Make sure your health care provider gives you a GFE in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service. You can also ask your health care provider and any other provider you choose, for a GFE before you schedule a service.

  • If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your GFE, you can dispute the bill.

  • Make sure to save a copy or picture of your GFE. For questions or more information about your right to a GFE, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 800-985-3059.
